Have you ever considered becoming an interior designer? Or what about just redesigning a space in your home?
If so, there is such a fabulous variety when it comes to being a designer and designing.
In fact, there are infinite solutions and options in a project and even in your career; you could design a residence, an office, a movie set, a hotel, a hospital, a nail salon, or a restaurant.
I have always been an extremely creative person. As a kid I would draw, redesign my room, and create projects on a daily basis. My creativity is why I went to school to become a certified designer, but you do not have to do that as there are many different routes you can take.
However, anyone can be a designer in their own home; you do not have to get a degree, certificate, or even be super creative to complete a space you enjoy.
That being said, I will leave you with a list of quick tips for you to begin creating a beautiful and comfortable place, you will love to live and spend time in.
Tiny tips that can make a huge difference in your home if you are a beginning or aspiring designer:
Don’t jump into the project too fast or you might regret decisions made and money spent.
Write down all your fantastic thoughts - one room at a time.
Research!!! Research what your ideas are and how others have designed with those tips in mind.
Plan out your storage needs.
Compile a list of everything you think you might need for a project and include the prices/estimates.
Come up with a budget that is feasible for you or your family (after all, designing for cheap IS possible).
Select all your furniture one piece at a time.
Using mirrors can make a small room look larger and brighter.
Keep small planters in a room to purify the air and please the eye.
The environment plays a huge role in our mood so let your windows be a focal point of a space to appear more airy and create a more holistic experience.
Light colored floors and walls can make a room appear spatially larger than it is.
Use different colors throughout your project that create a theme to add a spark to each space.
Select natural resources over fabricated materials; they are much more durable.
Choose comfortable sofas and furniture.
Always pick your paint color last. You want to pick the color that best compliments your upholstery, rugs, artwork, cabinetry, appliances, and furniture.
Less is more which is why you should give your furniture room to breathe. Prevent overcrowding as best you can.
Hang artwork so the center of the piece is about 57”-60”tall.
When designing around a rug, either place all furniture legs on top of it or all furniture legs off the rug.
Choose a focal point. Pick something that will immediately draw attention as soon as you enter a space.
Vary the scale and proportion of all accessories, art pieces and furniture.
Incorporate your own personality into your space, so you feel comfortable and at home.
